The founder, Hiroshi Aoki, met Masuo Ikeda in 1962 at Nihonbashi Gallery, where he worked. After establishing Bancho Gallery in 1967, he began to specialize in Masuo Ikeda's prints. In 1971, Masuo Ikeda and Hiroshi Aoki selected the copperplate prints created between 1960 and 1962 to publish Bancho Gallery's first book on copperplate prints. Since then, Bancho Gallery has published 25 art books on Masuo Ikeda. Even after Masuo Ikeda's death, Bancho Gallery continued to hold posthumous exhibitions on a regular basis and convey his masterpieces.
